This recipe brings me straight back to my senior year of high school when “off campus lunch” was a thing and Taco Bell was on the menu! Not the healthiest of choices but this was way before I knew any better! Every menu item was exponentially better with a few packets of sauce!
Over dinner, while enjoying Patrick’s Power Tacos, my husband said, “I would really love some Taco Bell Sauce to go with this!” I got to work and this is the result!
This recipe tastes great and is a packed with health benefits from ingredients such as tomatoes and cayenne pepper!
Tomatoes are a great source of the antioxidant Lycopene which has been linked to a decreased risk of heart disease and cancer.
Cayenne pepper has been linked to improvement in digestive health, pain relief and appetite control.
This recipe comes together easily and makes enough to store some leftovers to use later!
Ingredients:
- 24 oz tomato puree
- 24 oz water
- 1/4 cup white wine vinegar
- 1/4 cup Apple Cider Vinegar
- 3 tablespoons chili powder
- 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper * you can increase the cayenne pepper if you would like a spicer sauce.
Instructions:
- Add all ingredients to a medium saucepan
- On medium heat, bring to a simmer
- Simmer for 30-45 minutes until volume has decreased in half
- Remove from heat and allow to cool
- Can store in mason jars in fridge
- This recipe will make about 3 cups
Enjoy!
I will be trying this soon! It sounds really tasty, especially with the vinegar! I will let you know how much Mikey pours on his tacos!
